TRANSFORMING MTX AUDIO FROM A LEGACY BRAND INTO A MODERN GIANT WITH A NEW IDENTITY

 

MTX Audio approached SixSpeed to help reimagine their brand strategy and visual identity, and launch their remastered brand to the world. Since the 90s, they have had a foothold in basshead culture with products that kick you in the chest as much as they pluck at your heartstrings.

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

MTX Audio is famous for a slew of firsts in the audio space. Starting out of a Chicago garage, they grew to global fame off the back of their Terminator series of speakers that asked consumers to “Feel the Thunder”. 


They were also responsible for much of the fabrication behind the hit show “Pimp My Ride” and did all of the audio installs in the ridiculous custom rides. Their popularity began to wane in the mobile (car), powersports, and marine markets shortly after. So they needed a shot in the arm. 

THE AUDIENCE

 

Presence Makers. They’re fueled by a drive to find out what’s next and experience as much as possible. As communicated by the name: They make their presence felt. Each one is on their personal journey to own their style and make their name known, most notably through fashion and music.

THE INSIGHT

 

SOUND IS ACTUALLY A PLACE.

 

When you hear music, it transports you. To your first dance. To your high school hangout. To a moment captured in time that’s unlocked through your ears. 

It just so happens that when MTX transports you it’s with a healthy shove courtesy of plenty of bass. But it’s a place all the same. We took inspiration from their basshead roots to build a strategy and creative that would let the vibrations shake you loose from where you stood.

THE STRATEGY

We believe that sound is a place. And MTX Audio exists to take you there. 


Everything the brand does – Enhancing Experiences, Engineering What’s Next, Provoking connection – is in service to building a world that is different than the one where you currently sit. 


This strategy realigned the company around a north star based on what was already true. And here’s how it looks and sounds.

THE IDENTITY

 

First, we started with the logo. We kept the core elements true to the iconic MTX brand but updated the edging and gave it some sharpness to modernize the look. 


Next, we used exaggerated type and big, bold messaging to make a splash. We leaned on chromostereopsis (bold color combinations that appear to vibrate) to create an expansive, emphatic look for each of their segments. 


We tied the creative expression together with repeating patterns to bring the Amplify the Ride campaign to life on web.

THE WEBSITE

 

The sitemap was reorganized to highlight key products on the homepage across car, marine, and powersports audio. Dynamic headers and color usage made for a stunning transformation that outdoes any competing aftermarket brand in the space. 


Buying guides were added and categories were streamlined with unique color applied so the experience felt seamless. 


The history page and timeline were revamped to attract more OEMs to learn about the unique history of the brand.

THE RESULT

 

A completely reinvigorated brand that retains its basshead spirit while completely disrupting a category that has felt stuck in its ways. The MTX site continues to see increases in time-on-site metrics as well as overall traffic volume and sales throughout the holiday season.
